WILD BOYS AFTER DARK, BOOK ONE

LOGAN

Stella “Stormy” Knight is an expert at hiding—her feelings, her past, and her identity. Sometimes all that hiding takes its toll, and she needs to come out from under that heavy suit of armor and cut loose—but it never takes her long to put it right back on and disappear without a trace.

Private Investigator Logan Wild is relentless in his pursuit to discover the truth for his clients. He works hard, plays even harder, and always walks away unscathed and untethered. Until he meets mysterious and sexy-as-hell Stormy, who leaves him craving more than a one-night stand.

Passion ignites, secrets are shared, and their deep connection is impossible to ignore. But in order to have a future, Logan must uncover Stormy’s dark past—and when he does, he’ll hold her fate in his hands.

MY REVIEW

I was looking forward to reading ‘Wild Boys After Dark- Logan’  the first of four new After Dark titles from Melissa Foster.

Logan Wild, an ex-SEAL turned PI rescues Stella Krane from a drunken customer while visiting his friend Dylan’s bar. Stella has moved to New York and changed her name, on the run from a violent relationship.  Her ex- , currently in prison, will be released in four days and she is fearful he will find her.  There is an immediate connection between Stella and Logan, one which soon moves into the beginnings of a relationship.  Stella, however, is afraid to follow her heart, knowing with her ex- searching for her she may pull Logan into danger.  But Logan isn’t fazed by Stella’s concerns, he is determined to use all his skills to protect her, but can he convince her to stay and not to disappear again?

To me After Dark is a ‘big brother’ to the Love in Bloom series.  Although its content edges towards Sylvia Day/J Kenner, it still holds fast with Melissa’s trademark family connections  – in this instance Logan’s close relationship with his three brothers and his mother Mary Lou.  As in Melissa’s other books, both Stella and Logan have ghosts to banish and problems to overcome before they finally reach the end of their journey.  A new and entertaining addition to the Foster stable…

I would like to thank the author for donating a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Secrets are unearthed, promises are broken, friendships are put to the test and the real risk of bushfires under the hot Australian sun threatens to undo Rosie once and for all.

MY REVIEW

This is the final book of  Judith Barrow’s trilogy and is set in 1969.  I was caught up in this story from the moment I began reading, remembering so many parallels with my own growing up in the sixties.  There was Victoria seeking independence; wanting to escape from living in the shadow of a favoured twin brother and constant battles with her parents. Then Linda, with a career in nursing, caught between settling down and keeping her freedom. Jackie, a policewoman, was in a forbidden relationship which if revealed could see her behind bars. There was Richard too, who  by simply wearing a parka becomes the target for a gang of bikers. Judith’s brilliantly descriptive writing took me right back to those times.

When Richard is rescued from the bikers by pretty girl called Karen driving a Mini, he asks her out. Soon they are seeing each other regularly. Eventually he invites her to meet his family, not realising her bullying stepfather, George, is someone linked to their past. His cousin Linda has run into him too, and he scares her…the question is why?

Saga, great drama, a younger generation finding their feet in post war Britain; it was all therein spadefuls and in such accurate detail I felt I was back there. I loved the structure too, where we were treated to little ‘bites’ of one character at a time as the story progressed.  A great trip down memory lane and a lovely, lovely read. Thank you!
